The SB-1222 allows up to four sensors in a distant location to be connected back to the Vesta controller with a single Cat5 (Ethernet style) cable. This avoids the need to run a separate cable to each sensor.
Typical examples would be measuring several temperatures on the roof (solar hot water panels, perhaps) with a Vesta controller in the basement, or monitoring a group of sensors in an adjoining building.
The SB-1222 will use a block of four sequential channels on the Vesta: 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, or 13-16.
